Latonya Jackson
Latonya Jackson is a proud Dane County native, born and raised in the community she passionately serves. As a parent, she approaches every decision with the goal of creating a better world for her children and all youth across Dane County. Her commitment to fostering positive change is rooted in her deep connections and extensive experience in community-building initiatives.
Latonya is the Executive Director of Waiting to Exhale, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by Black and Brown communities. She believes that by uplifting women, we create stronger families and more resilient communities. Under her leadership, Waiting to Exhale has introduced transformative programs such as the Empowering Her Steps Program (EHSP) an affordable support group facilitated by licensed therapists to make mental health care more accessible. The organization also hosts women empowerment wellness seminars and conferences, creating spaces for women to connect, heal, and thrive.
Latonya’s dedication to community wellness is further demonstrated through partnerships with local therapists, ensuring financial barriers to mental health care are reduced. Her work reflects her passion for addressing the intersection of mental health, empowerment, and equity.
In addition to her work with Waiting to Exhale, Latonya has collaborated with notable organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County’s development department to implement impactful initiatives. She has also contributed to historical commemorations, including the Vel Phillips dedication, celebrating the legacy of Wisconsin’s trailblazing civil rights leader.
With her strategic expertise in organizing events and mobilizing resources, as well as her dedication to fostering inclusivity and equity, Latonya continues to be a transformative leader in Dane County, inspiring meaningful and lasting change. Latonya’s passion for community building and her track record of impactful relationships building make her a vital asset to Forward Career & College Academy.
